Message me and another guy on the team pulled the lifters, and took out the valve shims to be reground to spec in about 30 minutes. albeit this was an inline 4 motorcycle engine, so think about 60 minutes for the vg30s. putting it all back in took about 40 minutes, including checking the valve timing, replacing the valve shims, and checking the valve lash.
didn't need to pull the engine or anything.

all it takes is normal hand tools too and common sense.
we had some precision tools, like tdc check and timing check tools, but it's really unnecessary unless you need ultra-precision, as you do in our race engine.
0.025" valve clearance? no problem.
